Migration, Oceans and Resistance from a (Post)colonial Perspective

The Brown bag Lecture 2010 had the overall title 'Migration, Oceans and Resistance from a (Post)colonial Perspective'. It consisted of three presentation by young scholars who tackle some questions concerning these wide field of research.

Steve Estes (Sonoma State University) starts with a presentation about 'Race, Manhood, and the American Civil Rights Movement'.

Latanya Olatunji (University of Wuppertal) and Elisabeth Engel (Free University of Berlin) followed after a short break in the last weeks of the semester.

Latanya Olatunji talked about 'Race, Gender, & Rhythm: Exploring Black American Female Rapper Identities across Hip Hop's Decades from Sequence to Nikki Minaj' and Elisabeth Engel about 'African Americans' "Civilizing Mission" in Colonial Africa During the Interwar Years'.
